ARTISTdirect presents Staind October 10, 2000 The members of Staind chat with fans about their touring, their music, and the re-release of their album, "Tormented." ARTISTdirect: Hey everyone, welcome to the ARTISTdirect chat with Staind. We're here with the band, ready for your questions, so let's get to it! Bitter Dead Girl: To all members of Staind--what is it like for you to sing your songs, revealing all of your raw energy to millions of people? Staind: It's the coolest thing ever! It's such an amazing thing to put how I feel on a piece of paper, and have everyone relate to it. Something we all aspire to do in our lives. Sternchen: When did you all first decide you wanted to be in a band? Mike: I decided when I was 3 years old. Aaron: My family has taken pictures of me singing with their band since I was very small. Pictures of me standing with the microphone. Dolphins Dream: How did you come up with the band name Staind? Staind: Never heard that question before! It was just something all four of us finally agreed upon. Abbafan: What do you think of bands that are more rap than metal, like P.O.D., Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, and Methods of Mayhem? Staind: I personally am into all that stuff. I have enjoyed hip-hop a long time; it's just not what Staind is. Aaron: I'll second that. Shania: Hail! I wanted to know if you ever thought metal would climb back up into mainstream like it's steadily been doing now for the last few years, and how long do you see it lasting this time? Aaron: I don't think it ever went away. It's always been there--Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, all the 80s metal stuff. It's never gone away. The focus just gets turned to other directions. Mike: I think what you are seeing is MTV saying "Rock is back." Some of the media are trying to make it appear that it was gone, which it wasn't. Blood And Tears: The band has been on tour for some time now. What are the touring plans for the future? Mike: We are actually finishing up our second record now. We probably won't be out on the road until the beginning of next year sometime. Aaron: Yeah. Bloomers: What's the craziest thing a fan has done to get your attention? Sorry I'm so unoriginal! Aaron: Oh boy. A lot of fans try to get attention in a lot of ways, like flashing, etc. We aren't really about that. Some kid threw a prosthetic leg at us, so that was probably the weirdest thing. Kati: What bands do you guys like? Aaron: Everything! Being diverse in your musical taste is a good thing. Mike: We have been fortunate in that we have toured with bands we like, like Limp Bizkit, Korn, Deftones, Radiohead, Harry Chapin, many more. Tool, A Perfect Circle. We could go on for days!
