ARTISTdirect presents (hed) p.e. November 01, 2000 Jojo: What do you enjoy most--performing and touring, or recording. And why? Chad: I can't really say which one I love more. But we definitely get to do more playing than we do recording. Recording is that special time that we have, when we write a bunch of new songs. You feel that you're ready. Playing live is what we have always done, and that's the reason why we're here, so that's when we get the most enjoyment of anything, when we get up there and get down. Funster: Did you make a video for your new single from "Broke"? Chad: No, not yet! But I guess we will pretty soon. Jojo: Can you tell us the funniest thing that has happened to you while on tour? Chad: The funniest thing? Wow that would be really hard to pinpoint. You know what is hilarious, we were on tour, we just did a headlining tour, and we had Cold and Spineshank on tour with us, and on the last night of the tour we were kind of messing around with the opening band while they were playing, and Spineshank was playing bartender, and we thought that was pretty funny, and while we were playing our set, they kept coming up on stage, and singing along with the songs, so we had to stop playing for a bit, because they were too messed up, and we had to start again, because we were all messing up! Jen: When will you start working on your next record? Chad: There are no plans for us to do that yet. We're hoping to give "Broke" its fair chance. As soon as we have all the new songs ready, we'll be ready to go in and do it, to put it out. Vishisme70: How do you stay so damn tight when others are selling out?! See you 11/15 in Orlando! Love the signed CD! Chad: We'll talk about it when we see you in Orlando. Staind: Being on tours like Ozzfest, and Tattoo The Earth, you're all around some newer bands. Which band/s do you think will blow up big? What are some of the newer Bands you all like? Chad: I don't know, I really can't predict the music business. I've been surprised by the business so many times with bands that blew up that I thought would never really go too far. So that shows how much I know! I'm really liking this new band from our hometown, Huntington Beach, they are called the Human Lab, and they just got signed to Atlantic, and they are good friends of mine, and their music is great. Hed Rulez 4eva: Is it at all possible to get a tape of "Church of Realities?" Chad: Well, right now it's really hard to find because our old manager has half the rights to it, or something. I think you can find it online through eBay, but we are seriously considering if enough people find out about the band and if there is demand for it we are thinking of re-releasing it, so you can get it from us, instead of from someone else. So you may just have to wait a little bit longer. KerosenE: What did you think of the "problems" that the TTE tour had? Chad: I don't know which problems you're referring to. Hed Punk 2012: Why was "Hangman" left off the 2 major label album? Will it appear on a future album? Chad: I don't think so. That was just a song that we wrote a long, long time ago. I think we actually recorded it for the first record, but it just didn't make it. Vishisme70: Can you hook us up with the password for the secret track? Chad: I'm not sure if I'm supposed to but I guess I could. It's the lyrics from one of our songs, from "I Got You". It's "bring pain to the powers that be." Hed Pe Loudsider: How did you come up with the name chizad? Chad: Dougie, our DJ when we first met, he has this uncanny knack of just, if he meets you, even if you tell him your name, he won't call you it, he'll make up something so he can remember you. If you introduce him to your sister in law, for example, he'll say "hi sis-in-law" or something like that. He gave all the people in the band their names, and they all stuck. KerosenE: Do you have any advice for artists that are dying for some exposure? Chad: Well, it depends on what kind of artist you are. If you are in a band, like we are, I would say first of all, practice a lot, so that maybe you can get on shows and play. What we did when we first started out we just went Richter and started making flyers with our names on it, and going crazy promoting ourselves. Then when people find out about you they will tell other people if they're into it. Hed Punk 2012: Will you be headlining another tour late this year or early next year? Chad: Yeah, well, we're going to go back out with Papa Roach in a couple of weeks, and that will take us to the end of the year. At the beginning of next year, we are supposed to go out on this Snowboard Tour and I'm pretty sure that's us, and this band Kittie, and I am not sure who the headliners will be, but we definitely have plans, and that's one of our ambitions is to headline, and put on a true (hed) show.
