ARTISTdirect: Welcome to the blazing hellfire of the first Ozzfest chat! Godsmack is here and ready to take your questions about songwriting, touring, and the dark arts.

Sammiegurl: They say you will bring on the future of the new metal movement. What do you think of comments like that?

Godsmack: I would like to think that we would be that band to bring it on, but it's really tough for us to see that type of thing, we are really involved in touring and being on the road, if it happens, great, if it doesn't, we are just glad to be a part of it, for as long as it lasts.

Sarah: I recently saw you at BFD in N. California (great show). Why do you think you maintain the sound of your album when playing live while other bands do not?

Godsmack: We work really hard when we rehearse, and during sound checks, to make sure that we play as tight as we can play, and we spend a lot of time listening to our record, to refresh our memory.

302: When are you planning on releasing a new album?

Godsmack: Halloween. The new CD is going to be called "Awake," and we are hoping to have record release party on Alcatraz on the day of Halloween, so keep your eyes pealed.

MGownsall-2: What's it like to be one of the only bands in history of Ozzfest to play main stage 2 years in a row? Are you playing any new stuff this set list?

Godsmack: Yes, we are, we are playing a couple of new songs from the new record, but not too many. We want to keep most of it a secret until the new record comes out. To answer the question about being on the Ozzfest two years in a row, it's an honor that Ozzy asked us back twice.

302: What do you enjoy most about your current tour?

Godsmack: Getting to meet the guys in Pantera, we've been fans of theirs for a while. And they turned out to be super-nice guys.

Tommyboy: What band would you like to collaborate with?

Godsmack: A good question! Sevendust. I think Sevendust with Godsmack would make a really good song.

302: What do you think is the biggest misconception about the band, or Ozzy?

Godsmack: I think we have similar comparisons to Ozzy and when it comes to Satanism. Some people who don't understand why I'm involved in witchcraft could easily relate it to Satanism. And, I think Ozzy has gone through the same thing over the last 30 years. But I just think it's pure ignorance behind it.

Coffee Bean: Where is the best place you have toured so far? And why?

Godsmack: America. We've played Europe, several different countries in Europe, and so far my experience has been that America is the greatest place in the world to play. Because America is the greatest place in the world!

Icee Mocha: Where is your dream place to tour, and why that place?

Godsmack: I don't think I have a dream place to tour. You know, I think I just answered this--that America, to me, is the best place in the world that you could play, although we haven't been to Australia yet, and we are looking forward to doing that.

Loise: It looks like a lot of work making the music videos; is it fun also?
