ArtistDirect: Hi everyone! Welcome to the chat. We're here today with David Coverdale. Many of you know him from his work with Deep Purple and Whitesnake, but David has gone solo and has an exciting new album "Into The Light." So come on into the chat light and let's get down to it with David. Today's chat is in memory of David's beloved mother-in-law Mildred Barker. She passed away this morning at 9 AM PST.

David Coverdale: Hello world!

Bjorn: Are there any Whitesnake songs that have not been released on CD and in that case what are the names of the songs?

David Coverdale: Difficult to say. The first, I think, seven or eight Whitesnake albums are owned by an ex-manager, who continues to scrape the barrel. But more interesting is that I have probably 10 or 11 songs that didn't make the "Into The Light" thing. But believe me, the deeper that I get into the solo artist thing, the more I will be getting into looking at the obscure or rare stuff.

Dave: Are you going to do anymore work with Jimmy Page? P.S. "Coverdale/Page" is one of my favorite albums of all time.

David Coverdale: It's also one of my favorite albums of all time! I LOVED working with Jimmy. We spoke recently, after his injury, during his Black Crowes tour, and as disappointed as he is about having to compromise the tour, he sounds more positive than I have heard in many years. I sincerely hope that some day we will work together again in some capacity. Whether he would work with me on an album, or I would work on a song on his album, we remain good friends.

Simon: David if you had to pick 3 guitarists that have influenced your writing over the years who would they be?

David Coverdale: Jimi Hendrix, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimi Hendrix.

Argentina: Are you going on tour? Which material are you going to play, some of your two previous solo albums? Will you play in South America again?

David Coverdale: I would very much hope to go on tour. I feel in my heart that on stage is the place for me to present my music and tell my story. At this moment, there are no immediate plans in regard to the kind of music that I will be playing. It is of the greatest importance that I play songs from my new solo record. But working under my own name I'll be able to feature music, if I'd like to, from Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and Coverdale/Page. It is very liberating to be free from a group identity, or a fixed group identity. I would certainly hope to play in South America again.

Jruiperez: Are you going to be on tour to promote "Into The Light?" If yes, will you come to Spain?

David Coverdale: At this moment, I am making the Blah, Blah, Blah Tour 2000. I recently made interviews for Spanish press and radio. So keep your eyes and ears open.
