AmericanExpress: Welcome to another of an ongoing series of Blue from American Express chats! New Year.New Job! Our chat tonight will help you find a job, post your resume online, even send that first email to a prospective employer! Our special chat guest is Sacha Cohen, web career expert from Monster.com Welcome, Sacha!

Sacha Cohen: Welcome everyone to this evening's chat!

Carissa: Why should I post my resume online?

Sacha Cohen: By posting your resume online, you will be able to reach thousands of potential employers at a lower cost than any other method before. In addition, you can specifically target the employers that you are interested in reaching, and research those companies before you send in your resume.

Gail38: How fast has the online job market grown over the last few years and what is your opinion on the growth of it in the future?

Sacha Cohen: Well, the online job market has grown along with the growth of the Internet, obviously. And in the future, it will continue to grow as the Internet itself grows. For example, Monster.com has more than 2.6 million unique users a month.

Mike: What are some of the hottest web-related jobs?

Sacha Cohen: The hottest web related jobs include web designers, online community managers, ecommerce specialists, interactive account managers, and database programmers.

Tesky: What are the best places online to post your resume?

Sacha Cohen: Well, first I'd have to say Monster.com, which is the site that I do work for. Monster was named the number one job and career site on the Internet by Media Metrix. In addition, Go2net's Hot 100 ranks the following among the top sites - Hotjobs.com, careerpath.com, careermosaic.com, dice.com, and headhunter.net.

Curious1: Where can I find career guidance and advice online?

Sacha Cohen: All of the major job sites that I mentioned above also offer in depth advice from career experts, and recruiters, and others who are involved in recruiting, and career counselors.

Roy2000: In addition to the big job sites, are there other good places to look for a job online?

Sacha Cohen: Absolutely! Depending on the field that you are in, there are many smaller sites that target specific industries. One of the best places to look for certain industry related jobs are on some of the new business-to-business websites, such as verticalnet.com. In addition, you should also look at professional associations that are related to your field. For example, if you are a Human Resources professional, you might want to visit the Association for Training and Development (ASTD) or the Society for Human Resources Professionals. Talk to you colleagues, friends, and mentors, to find out what sites they visit frequently as well.
