Bloomingdales presents Emme December 18, 2000 Emme is a vocal advocate for women of all ages to be fit, healthy, and in style. Emme proved that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes when she penned her first book, "True Beauty." Emme shares stories about her vision, her rise to fame, and the latest holiday collection from her EMME® clothing line. Bloomingdale’s: Bloomingdale's introduces supermodel, author, and E! "Fashion Emergency" host Emme! Join us to chat about the sleekest, hottest looks this holiday! Emme, thank you for joining us today! Emme: Hello everybody! I hope this message finds you healthy, happy, and well. I look forward to answering all of your questions, so why don't we begin now? Megan: How did you get started? Emme: I got started in my clothing business through sheer and utter frustration of not finding clothes that were contemporary and stylish in 14 and 16. So, with all the contacts I had at “Fashion Emergency,” and people in the industry, I put two and two together. Ed: How long did it take to get your clothing range from concept to production? Emme: We were moving on a very fast track. Right after I signed the contract in January, we were into concept, color, and into production in less than six months, which is basically unheard of. We were basically flying by the seat of our pants. Tootsie: What do you consider your signature style? Emme: My signature style is clothes that make you feel graceful, comfortable, and with a flair of fashion, without going overboard. And throw a little fun in there! I guess that's what I would consider my signature style. Oh, and on top of all that, GREAT fabrics! Stephanie: Which fabrics are the most flattering? Emme: I love fluid jersey. I love matte jersey. And I really enjoy crepe jersey. Fabrics that don't cling, but really drape and shape the body are what I like to go for. Lauryn: I have a small waist but shapely hips. What style would you suggest for the most flattering look? Emme: Dresses, I would imagine, are very tough to wear. I would work with separates and, depending if you have a shapely bosom, I would wear wrap front shirts, and skirts that were slightly A-lined - but not too much. I would also find a fuller-legged pant that was in an either crepe jersey or a matte jersey…nothing too stiff in the fabric. Love Kitten: Emme, as a plus size girl I don't get asked out by guys, and I haven't had a boyfriend in like 4 yrs. How do I get guys to ask me out? Emme: You might have to be the person who asks the guy out first. But most important is to always keep yourself interested in what you do. So, when was the last time that you had a hobby? When was the last time that you read a really interesting book or a series of books? When was the last time that you reached out to somebody else that needed help in your community, through charity organizations? Usually, when we go out beyond ourselves, that's when other things in our life fall into place. Then we stop waiting for someone to do what we want them to do, and the event takes place naturally. Marty3: Hello, Emme. Do you feel you’re a role model for plus-sized women? Emme: I feel I am a spokesperson, of sorts, for women's issues, and the right to use our voice. So, if I can motivate women who are fuller-figured, as well as women who are our smaller sisters to stand up for what they feel is right, I think that that is my best offering. Whether I am a role model or not is not to be determined by me, but by those who see what I do. I'm not the one to determine that I am a role model; I don't think it is up to me to say that I am or not. I get motivated by so many other women, and I try and pass that along through my work on TV, my activism, my clothing line, and all different facets of my life.
