Body For Life presents Lynn Lingenfelter December 07, 2000 Body for Life Champion Lynn Lingenfelter, who is HIV positive, shares his experience with the Body for Life program and how it has helped him deal with his illness. Body-for-LIFE: Welcome to BodyforLIFE.com's Chats with Champions. Tonight's guest is 1997 Co-Champion Lynn Lingenfelter from Melbourne, FL. This Body-for-LIFE Champion overcame amazing adversity to lose 25 lbs. of fat, gain 12 lbs. of muscle, and change his life forever. Hello Lynn. Thank you for joining us and spending time with us tonight. Lynn: Hello everyone and let's get started! Boss: Lynn, thanks for your inspiration and story. What supplements did you use during the 12 weeks along with the Myoplex shake? Also, how did you originally hear about the Body-for-LIFE challenge? Lynn: I used Betagen along with Multi-blend and Myoplex. And that's it for supplementation. Originally I found out about Muscle Media Magazine by reading the 1996 supplement review. I went and picked up the first issue of Muscle Media after realizing it existed by reading the supplement review and the March issue of '97, I saw that the contest was in there. I saw this big red Lamborghini, and it caught my attention. That's what lit my competitive fuse. Dianne D: Hi Lynn, what was the toughest aspect of the challenge for you? Lynn: The toughest aspect was not to cheat. Bill Phillips had not officially made it a point for people to cheat yet, so I did it without any cheating and that was the hardest part about it. Of course now Bill Phillips does recommend one cheat a week so it's not so hard on you. Noh: I am doing the Body-for-LIFE workout and doing very well. I am also HIV positive like you and found out only last March. I am interested in any supplementation advice you might have for our special needs. I am not on meds yet, as my T-cells keep going up and viral load keeps going down. Keep my protein intake high, and take multis, Glutamine, Coenzyme Q, various other things. Any advice would be helpful. Lynn: That's an excellent plan you have going there, but I would add to it HMB, unless you're already taking Betagen. Keep up the good work. Billy 1965: Have you had to alter your workouts because of your HIV status? Lynn: That's a flat-out no. I was like anyone else. I trained as hard as anyone, if not harder. I never really followed the doctor's advice. I was quite stubborn. I believed I could do this challenge and give it my all, and I did. Bundy 66: What are good ways to get motivated and stay motivated? Lynn: I think every person has to make a decision to change first and foremost. There's no use starting any plan with an option to quit. You need to pick something in your life to motivate you, and for me, it was just to start looking better. I'd managed to be ugly on the inside and the outside. I decided to work on one area of my life, and I chose the outside. I did that because you can measure that change. For many people in the past, people would ask why I couldn't get my act together. That's hard to measure. So I started with my outside and tracked it and made a record of it. By improving that outside, I improved my inside. And the mirror reflected that I'm a new man. Kent Lean And Strong: I finished my last challenge at 7% BF (measured with calipers) but my abs were not fully showing. What can I do to develop them more? Lynn: I think that if you went down another percent, they'd start to show. So hit 6% and continue to crunch, I think you're real close. You have to be patient in developing your abs. It's the last thing to come out on your body.
