Body For Life presents David and Susan Ware July 25, 2002 Frankie: What was your training and nutrition program like? David: To train, we lifted free weights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings in our garage, and we alternated upper body and lower body workouts with free weights. Susie and I always worked out together. Our cardio workouts were on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Sometimes we did our cardio in the morning and sometimes in the evening. In the beginning of the Challenge, we started off very slowly because I hadn't worked out in about 20 years--actually since high school. Each week we were able to increase our intensity and the amount of weight we were able to lift, and we were able to increase our cardio workouts, which we felt increased our metabolism during the Challenge. For nutrition, we had 6 small meals per day that consisted of 3 meals--breakfast, lunch and dinner--with the authorized foods, and we supplemented in between those meals with Myoplex shakes and bars to get our 6 meals in each day. We used other supplements as well, including BetaLean, Methoxy Factor, CLA, RiboForce, and BetaGen. Those supplements, we felt, helped us during the Challenge. Shelly: Did you experience any other significant health improvements besides your weight? Susan: Yes. There was a definite improvement in my energy, and I just felt overall a lot stronger. David: I lowered my cholesterol from 244 to 174. I also lowered my bad cholesterol from 174 to 96. Actually, at the end of the Challenge, I had my cholesterol checked by my doctor, and he was amazed at how much my cholesterol had dropped in the 12 weeks. Texas: What was the toughest thing about the Challenge for you? David: The toughest thing about the Challenge was the terrible eating habits we had at the time. We ate so much junk food and we really didn't pay attention to the foods we were eating and how they affected our health. Also, we were setting a bad example to our three boys by not eating healthy and also by not exercising. Susan: One of the toughest things also was scheduling time to fit everything in and breaking our bad habits of going to the drive-thru on almost a daily basis. Basically I guess learning to prepare healthy foods/healthy meals. Damon: Have your relationships with friends and family changed? David: Our relationship has stayed the same; however, a lot of our friends and family have taken the Body-for-LIFE Challenge, and it's been rewarding helping our friends and family experience positive results by taking the Body-for-LIFE Challenge. Susan: I think it's changed a little by the fact that when we would all go out to eat as friends, eating healthy was never an issue. Now that such a large number of our friends are also taking the Body-for-LIFE Challenge, when we go out to eat we always pay attention to what we eat. And it's even a lot of fun because we now discuss what we're all going to do and eat on our free day. So it's like we're all one big Body-for-LIFE happy family! Burberry: I've seen great results but have had trouble getting my spouse to start. Do you have any advice?
