CCCMyst: Talk City Presents in association with BoxTop Live (tm) Welcomes You to Premiere Week Tonight we welcome Dr. Barry Sears. And now without further ado, welcome Dr. Barry Sears. Talk City Presents is a joint production of BoxTop(tm) and Talk City(tm). Welcome Dr. Sears! Mericcc: Dr. Barry, what is the most significant factor to the ZONE that contributes to its success? Dr Sears: I think the primary reason for success were that Americans were basically fed up with all the promises of low fat high carbohydrate diet for many Americans, their health had actually decreased over the last 15 yrs even though the ZONE was written for the cardiovascular physicians, it explained to many of the people why the failure of these low-fat high carbohydrate diets came about Dra Says: Dr. Sears, it's a pleasure to have you with us this evening. What are your thoughts on essential and non-essential Amino Acids and how they relate to planning protein in our meals? Dr Sears: Well in terms of essential Amino Acids, obviously the key for the Zone Diet, is to make sure that you eat a protein adequate diet, and this should consist enough of the Amino Acids to meet your daily requirements. The recommended proteins on the Zone Diet would be those that are low fat in nature, and this would include things such as chicken turkey, fish .egg white .and soybean imitation meat product .and the last that's particularly important because it's rich in the Amino Acids…arginine. Jm1: Dr. Sears, I'm a 14 and half yr old male 5'9, 200lbs, and actively lift weights. I'm part of a football program with a trainer. What are your thoughts on Creatine? I've been taking it for about 6 weeks and have noticed a difference. Dr Sears: Creatine is one of the few nutritional supplements that appear to work for strength athletes and this points out your feeling on all supplements .use the product as directed for 2 weeks, and if you see significant benefits…then it's working . if not .you'll probably never see any results. Angelo: What are your favorite sources of fiber, and how much do we take? Dr Sears: Well the best sources of fiber are those which are rich in soluble fiber .and that would include many fruits . beans . and oatmeal because it's soluble fiber that helps reduce insulin level. Dr2 Says: Dr. Sears, can you comment on high fructose levels found in most sports drinks? Is there a better complex carbohydrate for drinking? Dr Sears: The best sports drink . is called WATER and most sports drinks because of their high carbohydrate level will increase insulin levels.which is the worst nightmare for any athlete. Mysterygirl: What are your thoughts about problems with maltodextrin aspartame (Nutrasweet)? Dr Sears: Or in high heat conditions to make methanol and the other reason I don't like aspartame . is because one half the molecule is a spartic acid and that can be toxic to certain individuals.
