Boxtop presents Actor Danny Masterson August 21, 1998 Actor Danny Masterson chats about his role on "That 70s Show" and the rest of his eventful career. Speaker: Talk City Presents, in association with iXL Live, welcomes you to a conversation with our special guest Danny Masterson. Speaker1: Welcome to Talk City, Danny! "That 70s Show" sounds like so much fun! What has surprised you most about the time, and the show? Danny Masterson: I wouldn't say anything really surprised me about it. I was pretty good with history in school. What surprised me about the show is how funny it is! Seems now that not too many shows are really funny, but this one's really good! Anderson: How did you get involved with your current project? Danny Masterson: I was doing "Cybill"for the past two years, and that's produced by Carsey-Warner. "That 70s Show" was an audition, and I went in and met the producers and writers of the show. They liked me for the character, and Carsey-Warner said I could move from one show to the other. We got kind of lucky, and just started! Serious: Tell us about your new television show Danny! Danny Masterson: It's about six teenagers, who live in a place called Point Place, Wisconsin, where there's a whole lot of nothing to do. Our imaginations work to keep us from going insane. There's a lot of comedy just on nothingness. The main character's dad is conservative, and his mom's a little wild. I play one of their friends. I'm not too trusting of 'the man' and take things with a different element from most people. There's the character Kelso, who's overwhelmed by his girlfriend Jackie, and the character Fez, the foreign exchange student from an undisclosed country, who has landed in Point Place, Wisconsin in a time when things were kind of crazy in 1976. So there's the details. Aboveall: Goldie Hawn and Andie McDowell must be great to work with! Did you ever think you'd be cast in such a great show as "Town and Country?" Danny Masterson: I did think I would be! I was hoping that something like that would happen. But I'm not able to do that movie any more! I had a 25 day shoot, and had only finished 4 days of it because they were so far behind. Contractually, I wasn't able to during my current show's production. I was playing Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton's son, and I had to give up a dream role. It was a bummer, but what can you do? That's Hollywood for you. So no one go and see the movie! I'm kidding! Phasis: What was it like working with Tracy Ullman? She's a favorite of mine. Danny Masterson: Oh, she's brilliant! It was fun. I did an episode of her show for HBO 2 years ago. She has incredible characters, super witty, and so nice. She's a comic genius! It was just a lot of fun.
