UltraViolet: How much can I expect to pay for a great haircut? And, how much do we tip?

Creighton: Wow that really depends on where you're from. In NYC you can find great haircuts from 50 dollars and on up. You should always tip 20 percent if you're happy! Regardless of what you have to pay, it's always great to go into a salon and watch the hair stylist do someone else's hair. Put something into it, if you expect to get something out of it.

Metto: I have an 11 year old who likes to have his hair dyed. Is there any danger at this young age to damage his hair or scalp?

Creighton: The ages 12-14 look into manic panic or punky colors which are vegetable dyes and are not harmful to the skin. They wash out in 10-12 shampoos.

Hotlips: Do you get to go to all those photo shoots for the magazine?

Creighton: Yeah! A lot of them! I was on one today for CosmoGirl!, working on our next issue's fashion spread. We shoot in various studios in NYC, depending on where the photographer likes to work, and depending on what it is that the art director is looking for in a photograph, if it's something we can do in a studio. They generally take anywhere from 1 to 2 days. If you go on a trip to do a photo shoot, they take longer. Generally up to a week.

Ladywolf TX: What is the best cut if your hair is very thick and straight. I am 49 years old.

Creighton: Simple is better. Long layers, depending on length.

Amyboo: How can I get my hair fuller? It's cut into a short bob and it's very thin, and my hair feels like straw when it's wet. Is there something I can do for it? I'm 23!

Creighton: Once again, a great conditioner. If your hair feels like straw when it's wet, a spray-in conditioner that you leave in. On the ends not the roots. It's great for your hair texture, and then as far as body goes, spray gels and mousses work better for body. Blow your hair upside down, and bump the ends with a brush. You should be ready to go!

Jesus4-ever: Is there a way you can't damage your hair by heat? You know, blow-dryers, heat curlers, etc. ?

Creighton: Unfortunately not. Heat is the number one damage for hair, sometimes more than chemicals. Using a top quality conditioner especially if you're an excessive blow dryer, and using a deep conditioner once a week does the trick for my clients.

Dad: I have too much hair and it grows too thick, too fast. It is also very wavy. I call it my curse. Any ideas on how to keep it from getting too thick too fast?

Creighton: Finding a barber or an inexpensive hair stylist you really like a lot and go every other week. It's the only way to control fast-going short hair on clean cut guys. Be happy you have hair!

Sugar-chick: If I wanted to start as a hair stylist what should I do?

Creighton: Look into beauty school in your area and check your community college, because they generally have a program set up and they pay for the majority of the cost. It's really easy too, depending on where you are - it takes anywhere from eight months to a year. I went to Beauty School at Laguna Hills California, it had the funniest name Eleganté Beauty College. I'm totally embarrassed to be admitting this - it was fun! My supervisor was a very, very tough military type woman who made us wear uniforms, and would clock us out and send us home for the day if we were late. All fun aside, beauty school can be little discouraging. Thee real fun starts when you graduate and get a job in a salon assisting. After a year or two of that you start your clientele, and you're off!

Evelyn Carnahan2: I have straight hair that has a little wave to it, but I want it curly. I don't want it to be like really curly, but curly and wavy at the same time. Is it possible to make my hair like that?

Creighton: Sure! Before you go to bed, pop in a half dozen random large pin curls. Mist them with some water, and then when you wake up in the morning, you'll have curls and waves. Shake and go!
