HBO presents Ginger, Exotic Dancer November 02, 2000 Ginger, from HBO's documentary series "G-String Divas," chats about her part in the series and her life as an exotic dancer. HBO: Ginger, thank you for joining us tonight! Ginger: Hello to Ginger lovers around the world. Hope you enjoyed the show! Ain't I the cutest or what? DVSDiva: How did you get into dancing? Ginger: I was working in the corporate world and needed to meet some financial goals. And started dancing to augment my income and it became more lucrative than the 9 to 5 job. And that was 8 years ago! I Luv HBO: What is the hottest experience you have ever had in a club? Ginger: Because I have no clothes on it's usually pretty damn cold. But seriously, sometimes if you are attracted to a customer--which does happen--and you're doing a couch dance it can become pretty romantic. What usually makes my temperature rise is a cool C-note in my hand. Delia416: What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you while you were dancing? Ginger: The funniest thing that happened, I actually enjoyed myself. Xannie: What's the best part of being a "G-String Diva?" Ginger: It's my big 15 minutes of fame and I get to see how fat I look on film. Doyal: Hello Ginger, I just wanted to tell you that you looked hot in the newest episode of "G-String Divas." I have a question. Why are you called the "Queen of the Jungle?" Ginger: Good question! When I spoke with HBO I started telling them that the environment in a strip club is like a jungle, where it's every man for himself, dog eat dog. It's very primitive and dark and dangerous and the only way to survive is to be the king of the jungle. And that's what Ginger is - The Queen of The Jungle. I was the queen because I had the most couch dances and champagne rooms consistently and consecutively in terms of months. Morton: Have you gained more fame and attention from the HBO documentary? Ginger: It hasn't really changed my life. One woman recognized me in the mall and that sent me to giggle. Other than that it hasn't really made a big difference. I thought it would, but it did not. I thought Hollywood would be calling but apparently they don't have access to my number. Matt: What did it feel like inside, the first time you took your clothes off in front of a room full of people? Ginger: I think the first time a dancer takes her clothes off it's exciting, exhilarating, scary. I felt those things, but I also didn't have any hang-ups about my body so it felt pretty natural. I knew that stripping, right from the beginning, was a business and didn't have too much to do with me being naked. Kailani: Do you get turned on when you strip? Ginger: I do not. When I'm stripping (in other words, when I'm on stage) that is when I'm circling my prey. I'm sizing up my audience. I'm determining who am I going to approach next, where I can make the most money. My thoughts are not focused on sex; they're focused on money. That is why I'm successful. Original Pope: Ginger, have any of your customers ever touched you in ways that made you feel dirty or uncomfortable? Ginger: Yes. That would happen sometimes. That comes with the territory sometimes, because you're so close in the couch dance room and in the champagne room, they can get fresh fast. Their fingers do the walking especially down south. I usually end our session immediately and kick them the hell out - but I get my money. Steve: Is it hard to keep a regular relationship with your occupation? Ginger: It's very difficult. At first a man will find it intriguing and somewhat sexy to know his girlfriend is a dancer, because it seems like that means that she is very hot. As soon as they become attached, as soon as they fall in love with you, they quite naturally disdain the dancing and want you to stop what you're doing. But, this becomes the problem because this is your job - to dance. This is your job and a man can't tell you how to earn a living unless he's paying your bills. Things can get pretty ugly. It's understandable. It's only natural that the man who loves you wants you for himself. So, dancing is a very isolating experience. It isolates you from friends and lovers. They don't understand that it's part of a job. You're perceived as a big whore and people abandon you.
