Lifetime TV presents Ruby Wax August 16, 1999 Interviewer extraordinaire, Ruby Wax, chats about the series she’s doing for Lifetime Television, “Ruby” and shares some of her oddest interviewing experiences. OrCCCa: Welcome to LifetimeTelevision! Please welcome interviewer extraordinare Ruby Wax, host of Lifetime TV's brand-new series, appropriately titled "Ruby," premiering Saturday, August 21 at 10 pm ET/PT Please join us in a BIG welcome to Ruby Wax. Ruby Wax: Clap, Clap, Clap in your homes or wherever you are. OrCCCa: Ruby, you're known for your outrageous celebrity interviews. Have any of them ever turned out differently than expected? If so, which ones? Ruby Wax: First off, this show is not celebrity based. They always turn out differently because I don't know what to expect and because I don't have a script, so anything is a surprise, and the more surprising, the better the show. If it goes wrong, it's the best show of all! Greengenes: Ruby, you seem to be everyone's best friend. Where did you get your delightful charm, charisma and personality? Ruby Wax: I went to Charm School in Switzerland where I learned all my charm. It cost a tremendous amount of money. I am waving to my friend Anita who went to school with me there when I was 13, and I am old now, so better you don't see me! Purdey78: Why do you not want to live in NYC? Ruby Wax: I would if they paid me, but I live in England because 25 years ago no one would employ me, so I left these shores in disgust and to fend for my food elsewhere. Blondebomb: Are you American or British? Where do you hail from? Ruby Wax: I am American, born in Chicago, Illinois. I hitchhiked through Europe when I was very tiny and never came back. Coralsees: Who/what makes you laugh? Ruby Wax: Usually not famous people, but I have some very funny girlfriends and if you'd like their phone numbers, I'm sure they'd be delighted. Usually women. I like when they find their most hideous trait and then play on it. A humiliating experience is also amusing. Jo-Nell: Are you still going to do that movie that you and Jennifer Saunders went to India for? The one starring Goldie Hawn? Ruby Wax: We hope we can do it without Goldie Hawn - we hope Jennifer, who is the funniest woman on earth, can play the role. It was a HORRIBLE experience and did not work out, but thank you for asking! Jennifer's show, which is "Absolutely Fabulous," should not be diluted, and some people try to do that. YCTVboy: I really love how you present. I am doing presenting as well for YCTV, and Sabrina says I am doing well for a 12-yr-old. Do you have any tips for me? Ruby Wax: Just to play on your instincts and always listen to yourself, and if you don't like a person, don't interview them -- it will always show on your face. Jaunie: Does anything embarrass you? If so, what's been your most embarrassing moment both personally and professionally? Ruby Wax: Well, when I'm working nothing too much embarrasses me. I'm a "mental gynecologist," so nothing much embarrasses me. Personally, I'm always embarrassed. A full length mirror embarrasses me. Sometimes on television, I'm embarrassed about my performance, but then it is too late and I think, "How could that girl do that"?
