Neutrogena presents Dr. Christine Correale August 15, 2000 Dermatologist Dr. Christine Correale answers questions about beauty, skin care, acne, and cosmetics. Neutrogena: Neutrogena and Eckerd welcome all of your questions to Dr. Correale. Today's topic is getting clean, clear skin for back to school. And now Neutrogena and Eckerd are proud to present Dr. Christina Correale to answer your questions about clean and clear skin. Dr. Correale: Hello. Welcome to the Neutrogena chat. I'm Dr. Christine Correale, a dermatologist in Hershey, PA. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about skincare and acne. Olivia: How do I keep my skin from breaking out while I'm doing sports? Dr. Correale: Hi, Olivia. That's a good question. You should use a cleanser with acne medications, such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. You should do this immediately after working out and on a daily basis. Keri: How do I get rid of small pimples? Scrubs work, but they don't get rid of all of them. What's the best way? Dr. Correale: Keri, scrubs may be too irritating for the skin. An acne medication such as benzoyl peroxide should be applied ever day to acne-prone areas, even when pimples are not present. Bibble: Can my girlfriends makeup cause a pimple outbreak on myself? Dr. Correale: Makeup should not be shared. It's unlikely that this is the cause of your acne, but is safer to use only your own makeup. Geet: Which sunscreen is ideal for daily use? How much should be the SPF? How do we decide? Dr. Correale: Geet, an SPF 15 should be used daily. A convenient way to do this is to use a moisturizer with SPF 15 every morning after washing your face. For prolonged sun exposure, you'll want to use an SPF 30. It is important to reapply sunscreen frequently if you are out in the sun for a long time. Keri: What is the best way to get rid of oily and shiny skin? Dr. Correale: Hi, Keri. Using a cleanser on a daily basis with salicylic acid, and applying acne medication such as salicylic acid, can minimize pore size and minimize oily skin. Neutrogena's SkinClearing Moisturizer might be a good choice for you. It contains salicylic and retinol.
