Palm: Welcome, Frances Hoge, Vice President of Wireless Content, is on hand with her team. They can't wait to hear from you, so get ready to ask them about accessing the Internet on the go with your Palm handheld. Now, please welcome Frances Hoge.

Frances: Glad to be here.

Clayfeet: Is it currently possible to store one's Palm data on a Web site and perform wireless HotSyncs one or both ways?

Frances: We think that the ability to synch data is an important part of the services that Palm provides. We are happy to have a couple of solutions available, including re-synch, which allows you to refresh your wireless data specifically your date book.

ICM: Are there any WAP compliant browsers that Palm recommends for the Palm VII?

Frances: There are several third party solutions available for a WAP browser. You may want to check out palmgear.com for some solutions.

Martin: How does one go wireless to the Web with a Palm V?

Frances: You can access the Web with your Palm V using the Minstral modem by Novatel.

JohnW: What is the availability of modems for Palm IIIc?

Frances: Available in the Palm store, www.palm.com, you can use the current Palm III series modem for your Palm IIIc.

Sales Palm: Do you know of any good marketing and sales tools for Palm that can assist in account planning, and call prioritizing?

Frances: The market leading ACT! 2000 Desktop Software Suite has conduits to transfer all-important data to the Palm handheld device.

UK: What is Palm's wireless strategy?

Frances: Palm wants to be the worldwide leader in wireless solutions. And we will enable wireless access solutions from all of our Palm devices in the future.

DAM: When do you foresee the pricing of the wireless Internet becoming more affordable? (i.e. Like how the current Internet and ISP pricing structure has evolved?)

Frances: That's a good question. As more and more users come into the space, we expect the price points to broaden to allow even greater usage. Currently Palm offers 3 different price points to enable as many different users as possible, ranging from $9.99 to $44.99 per month.

Bengyeow: Good afternoon, I would like to know on which technology are Palm's wireless clip-ons based?

Frances: The Minstral V is based on CDPD by ATandT.

Travis: But getting the Web onto your little screen is annoying. I'm glad to see the palm.net service, and Web Clippings that are provided on Palm VII; when will that work with other devices currently in production?

Frances: We are delighted that you like Web Clipping. We believe Web Clipping has tremendous value and we are committed to bringing it to the Palm product line later this year.

StevenK: When will the palm.net service be international?

Frances: Palm has committed to becoming an international service and would like to be there ASAP. You can expect to hear more plans later this year.

Debacle: Do you believe Palm is sufficient to compete with newer MS Windows products or RIM's Blackberry?

Frances: Absolutely, and let me tell you why. Palm has, by far, the largest collection of applications of any handheld platform; more than 6,000 solutions that let you do almost anything imaginable. And many thousands more than you can get anyplace else. Palm systems also are simpler to use than competing handhelds and are much lighter weight and smaller, which makes them easy to carry with you. The source of success in the handheld market is not sticking an entire PC into your pocket. It comes from designing the best handheld possible and we think the best handheld is Palm.

Cfitz: What applications are people REALLY using for wireless access on their Palms?

Frances: There are many applications that our users are enjoying. Some of the biggies are stock quotes and trading, flight schedules and reservations, online shopping and even Starbucks.

Marcose: What wireless options are there for non-Palm VII users?

Frances: There are clip on wireless modems available for both the Palm III and the Palm V. Some cell phones also support a cable to the Palm and two-way pagers can also be used for the communication between the Web and the device. Some of these products are available at the Palm store at palm.com.
