Questia Transcripts presents Mark and Suzan April 26, 2001 Wallie: Are the words on the left a whole new search? It seems like I get less every time I click on one of those. Mark: Well, Wallie, that is an excellent question! The subject headings on the left were derived from your initial search query. Those subjects on the left are the top 25 Library of Congress subject headings from your search results. By selecting one of those 25 Library of Congress subject headings, it will help you narrow your search results by searching for an exact match to that subject heading within your initial search. I hope that helps, Wallie! College Guy: What Boolean operators do you use? Suzan: We use "and," "or," and "not." We also support proximity operator "near." Macintosh Guy: Will you be supporting the Macintosh platform in the future? Mark: Yes! It's in our plans to support the Mac in the very near future. If you would like notification when we support the Macintosh platform, go to our System Requirements page, and we have a Mac notification, which will e-mail you a notifier when we are supporting the Mac or mail Mac@questia.com . Great question, Macintosh Guy! Brilliance: I was looking for something the other day and couldn't find it. Can I request somewhere for specific material to be added? Suzan: The first thing you may want to try is re-executing your search as a Full Text Search, and see if you have any luck. If not, we are constantly expanding our collection to reflect highly regarded and referenced works in the humanities and social sciences. You can always submit the topics on which you didn't find material through Customer Service Feedback. Orion: Can I download a Questia Tutorial somewhere, as well? Mark: Yes, actually, you can! On the home page, you will find a product demonstration (or tour) on the bottom navigation bar. Right next to it, you will find a "Tips" link. This will give you a Flash-automated demonstration of all the great features of the Questia service, including how to use the Highlighter, Bookmark, and Citation Assistant within the content of the publication. Andromeda: Any plans to expand the Library? Suzan: Yes! Actually, the library expands on a regular basis. More books and journal articles are added all the time! Enigma: It's always totally busy, I imagine. Can multiple people access the same titles, or do I have to wait till what I am looking for is free? Mark: Multiple people can access the same titles of a book or journal article at the same time. Unlike a library, you will never find a book checked out from the Questia service. So thousands of people can view the same page, within the same book, at the same time! Suzan: Isn't that cool?! Mark: Isn't that great? Suzan: When you're under pressure, you can finish that paper! Dusty: How is the best way to find the periodicals? Mark: On Quick Search, you can use the radio buttons to select journal articles, type in your key words, and hit "Go." The Questia powerful search engine will search only journal articles for your key word.
