Showtime presents Evander Holyfield July 22, 2000 Former Heavyweight Champion, Evander Holyfield, chats about boxing and his opponents. Showtime: Please welcome the man who has given us some of boxing's greatest moments, former undisputed heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. Boxing experts and his opponents have at times underestimated his talent and dedication to being the best. Time and again he has proven that he is "The Real Deal". Holyfield started his career at age eight and matured into one of the most talked-about Olympians of '84. He went on to give us one of boxing's most thrilling nights when he defeated Mike Tyson and earned the undisputed heavyweight crown. We eagerly await Evander Holyfield's return to the ring on Showtime August 12th! Welcome to the chat, Evander! Evander: Thank you. Finick: What do you eat for breakfast when you are training? Evander: I eat 3 eggs over-easy, hamburger patty, grits, and toast. TRO5820: What nutritional supplements do you take while in training? Does your conditioning coach, Tim Hallmark, work with the general public? Evander: I take some different kinds of multi-vitamins that come from Champion Nutrition and Sports Research. They make the vitamins that I take. Tim Hallmark is a private trainer. He is a personal trainer so it is not so much public. Da Weasel: Before a fight what is your average day like when it comes to your training schedule? Evander: I train about 3 times a day. Early in the morning I get up do weight lifting; then afterwards I do conditioning; then later on at night I do sparring in the back and jump rope. TRO5820: Evander, you are a true champion. How many miles a week do you run while in training? Evander: I don't run a lot of miles. I run a lot of sprints and a lot of power metric. Beffie: How do you train yourself mentally before a match? Evander: Well I just think about all the things to be the best and what I usually do is just more have a checklist to check myself that I do everything that is necessary before a fight. I run. I've paid the price. That is usually enough. Tweety2832: What was your main motivation for a career in boxing? Evander: My main motivation is that I wanted to be the very best and so boxing is something that I felt I had as easy a chance as anybody to be the best, because in boxing everybody gets the chance to compete. You're better you're worse. Everybody gets a chance. That is why I chose boxing. Boxing Chick7: Did your family approve of boxing when you first started out? Evander: Yes, my mother did.
