JoBee: I recently cut my hair from extremely long to very short, any tips or ideas on how to decorate short hair without looking too young?

Clifford Hashimoto: I would say, I don't know what products you are using, but there are a lot of great pomades. There's one called Blonde, and they have this great pomade in a little tin with gold flecks in it. Using it in your fingers, and doing little spike movements in your hair with the pomade will make your hair glisten like it's shining. It's great for the holidays. Hair accessories like the little clips are out right now. Headband with rhinestones would be really great right now. Very thin, just a very thin wire. But doing twists with the clips is old hat right now.

Jilly: Do wrinkle cremes really work and at what age should I start using them?

Clifford Hashimoto: Anything with a little of Retin-A in it, products over the counter, I've been told they do work, but maybe not as good as the product you get from your doctor. But I think you should start using them in your twenties to prevent the wrinkles from coming. If you already have the fine lines, it will help reduce them. Retin-A is supposed to take off the dead layers so the skin can rejuvenate.

Virtual Mirage: I have really dry hair due to perms and coloring it; any suggestions to get it looking and feeling healthy?

Clifford Hashimoto: First of all stop getting perms and colors at the same time. My dear that is the worst thing you can do! Obviously, you have to stop doing both of them. No more chemicals on your hair, it has to have some breathing room. This is a typical problem that I see many times working in the salon. What I used to do is basically have to correct other people's bad work. So, what I would suggest to you, if you were my client, would be to find out what was more important to you the volume, or the color. What I probably think is the color is. I would start working with the color, getting it more natural. I would start to let the perm grow out and have the stylist show you how to straighten your hair, perms are out. No more of those. There are many great haircuts out there for straight hair, and if it's fine there are some out there for those too. But if you want to keep your hair healthy, don't do both, its just to much!

Marilyn: I have a lot of gray hair. Should I highlight it or just color all of it?

Clifford Hashimoto: Another good question! There are two things you can do. I think you realize that highlighting it, or bleaching it to get it even lighter is not a bad idea, if you want to keep the gray and get it light. But if you want to color it back it's not an easy process. You have to color it with red if you want to bring it back to dark. Or if you want a medium shade, it's easier to color back from gray. You don't need to add the red tint to bring it back. So basically, to highlight it would keep your hair lighter, and that would be ok. I used to do it for my mother all the time, so it would just soften it a bit with a little gold tone. I hope that helps.

Ms. Diva: I have tons of make up in my bathroom. What do you recommend are basic essentials?

Clifford Hashimoto: Basically, you need to take that drawer and dump it all out. I'll give you suggestions I think would really help. If you go to the M-A-C Store, most everyone knows these products. You will find these really great containers for makeup, which we call palettes. The people at the store are so helpful to find great colors for you, because they are makeup artists. Not like the girls at the counters in the department stores. So if you go to a M-A-C Store or counter, let them help you pick out new makeup. You've been buying makeup everywhere, that's why you have so much of it. Now you can go to a store specialized in makeup and you have someone there who can always help you find the proper products and colors for you. The prices will really surprise you; they are not overpriced at all. They have these really great palettes that are flat, hold your blushes, eye makeup, and fit right in your drawer.
