tNBC presents Danso Gordon February 8, 2001 You recognize him as Kenny "Silk" Hayes, the legend-in-his-own-mind power forward on Deering's basketball team, but there's much more to talented actor Danso Gordon. Read what the "Hang Time" star had to say about his career, working as part of a team in sports and on screen, and growing up as a class clown! TNBC: Welcome to t-Talk's cool place to hang out and chat with your favorites from tNBC. Today, we're chatting with Danso Gordon from tNBC's "Hang Time." BORING BUT NECESSARY INFORMATION. Danso Gordon is here now, so ask him everything you want to know about "Hang Time." Welcome, Danso! Danso Gordon: Hello! How are you guys doing? Thank you for having me! Silky Girl: Where did you get the nickname 'silk'? I know where I got mine! (laughing) Danso Gordon: Well, the writers. I guess my character is supposed to be smooth on the court, but even smoother in person. I believe that's how the nickname came about. (laughing) Wannabe An Actor: In one sentence, explain to me how you felt the first day on the set. Danso Gordon: I could give you three words--overwhelming, ecstatic, and unbelief. Rita: At what age did you know or feel that you really wanted to pursue an acting career? Danso Gordon: I believe I was about 13 years of age in good old Canada. I was always one of those kids in class who loved attention. I guess I probably still do. I always wanted to be the center of attention. My father used to live here in California, so it was always something that I wanted to do--move here, to Hollywood, 'La La Land'--and see what happened. And it's been great! Halifax Chick: Is "Hang Time" the only TV show you have been on? Danso Gordon: No. Here's a plug for a new show. I just finished shooting a new Disney TV show called "In a Heartbeat," in Toronto. It is currently airing in Canada and the United States. My character's name is Hank, and I play a junior paramedic. Also, I guest starred in "Sliders" and "Get Real." Softly Ours: Was your role in "Street Cents" what really prompted you to move to LA and become famous? How did you know you'd make it so big? LA is pretty scary! Danso Gordon: I wouldn't necessarily say that it was my role in "Street Cents." I've always wanted to move to California. Regardless of whether or not I got that role, I was still going to make that move. How I knew I was going to be rich and famous? Well, I don't consider myself rich or famous yet, but there were times when there was self-doubt. I believe in every journey or goal that you are trying to attain there will be self-doubt, but if you believe in yourself--and you have to--you should be fine. So whenever you fall down, get back up. That's the test of a true winner. And hold on to those goals. Persian Kitten: I grew up in Halifax. How did you enjoy living there and working on "Street Cents?" Danso Gordon: I love Halifax, especially now, more so, because it is so laid back. The people there are so extremely nice. It's the perfect vacation spot. I loved working on "Street Cents." It was actually one of the first things I did in my life, and I was extremely excited just to be there. It was great!
