Talk City presents Sully Erna, Godsmack Lead Singer November 02, 2000 Godsmack frontman Sully Erna answers questions about the band's second album, "Awake" and the inspiration behind their songs. MusicArena: Welcome to @MusicArena! Bursting on to the hard rock scene out of Boston, the band Godsmack followed its triple platinum self-titled debut by releasing "Awake" this past Tuesday on Republic/Universal Records. Composed of Sully Erna (vocals), Tommy Stewart (drums), Robbie Merrill (bass) and Tony Rombolo (guitar), when a local DJ started playing "Keep Away" off their self-titled DIY release, the group soon signed Paul Geary (drummer from Boston rock group Extreme) as their manager and the rest, as they say, is history. Tonight we are pleased to have vocalist Sully Erna joining us for the next hour. Enjoy! Welcome back to Talk City Sully - great to have you here! To start tonight - would you tell us a little about your latest release "Awake" that you have just launched? Sully Erna: Greetings everyone! "Awake" is brand new and we are very proud of it! Make sure you have a very loud stereo when you turn it up! Please go grab it when you can Thorns Girl: Do you still get nervous before the show and if so, how do you try to deal with that? Sully Erna: Not so much nervous, but anxious. I never get stage freight but I do get nervous. I have my boxing trainer with me and we usually box before the shows. Tonedef1: Whaz up, Sully! How did you guys get a slot with Ozzfest? Sully Erna: We were asked by Sharon and Ozzie and being fans of Black Sabbath our whole lives how can we say no! Chaotic Angel16: Hey Sully. I saw you guys last week in Charlotte and you were great! I also picked up "Awake" yesterday and I was wondering if you have a fave track or a track that you are more partial to on this album and what is it? Sully Erna: Heya Angel! My fave track at the moment is "The Spiral," it is like "Voodoo Part2." It is the curveball track-the one that sounds different then all others. Sweet On Scully: What do you do on your days off? Sully Erna: Honestly, I ty to rest as much as possible. Most of our tours are 'hit and run affairs' so when I get a chance I like to rest as much as possible. You don't know how much of being on the road involves traveling. I really appreciate a day off!
