SiggyGirl: When did you first decide to write the "inside story" of the Hell's Angels?

Sonny Barger: It's not the inside story; it's an autobiography. It's my life in the Hell's Angels. It would be hard to put the Hell's Angels in 250 pages. It was really hard to put my life in that short a space. Every chapter in that book could be a book in itself.

Miss Q: When you started writing, did it all 'come back to you'? Or did you have notes or diaries from the early days?

Sonny Barger: I had most of it in my head. I sat around and talked with some of my old friends. Once they said something, it refreshed my memories.

JDavis6616: Mr. Barger, you're a businessman. I mean, you do your own thing. What would you recommend a 15-year-old young entrepreneur do for starting writing?

Sonny Barger: Well, I really don't know, because this is my first shot at being an author. I had co-authors helping me--two brothers who had written a couple of other books. I don't think I would have been able to do it by myself.

Blyeyes: What do you feel about mandatory helmet laws?

Sonny Barger: I don't think anything should be mandatory. I fought the helmet law in California for years, and they passed it while I was in prison. I've worn a helmet since 1984, but I wear it by choice, and not because it will protect my head. I need to keep the air out of my nose and eyes. I now live in Arizona, where there is no helmet law, but I still wear one out of choice.

NetCafeLive: Sadly, Mr. Barger, we are at the end of what has been a fun and enlightening hour. Do you have any last thoughts you wish to impart to us this evening?

Sonny Barger: I just hope everyone will buy a book. It's interesting, everyone says. I hope that everyone who buys it enjoys it and feels they got their money's worth. The title of the book is "Hell's Angel." Thanks! Good night.
