CCCola: Welcome to NetCafeLive! Tonight we are chatting with Web expert Elizabeth Castro, author of "HTML 4 for the World Wide Web." NetCafeLive is presented by Borders Online and Talk City, Inc. Elizabeth Castro began working with the Macintosh in a software development and distribution company called CTA, in Barcelona, Spain. Her first project was the translation of an OCR program into English, which was quickly followed by the translation of Aldus PageMaker (version 3!)into Spanish. In 1993, she left Página Uno (and her beloved Barcelona) and returned to the US to edit the fifth edition of the Mac Bible. She's still doing Spanish localization work (most notably for Adobe Systems) and currently working on a book for Peachpit about Netscape. Latest Peachpit book, Perl and CGI- Visual QuickStart Guide Other Peachpit books: HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide Netscape Communicator for Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide Netscape Communicator for Windows: Visual QuickStart Guide Please join me in Welcoming Elizabeth Castro!

Liz Castro: Hello everyone!

CCCola: Elizabeth, it's a pleasure having you here in Talk City, welcome! To begin our conference, would you tell us how you got started in writing computer books?

Virtig01: Hey Liz! How are your cats?

Liz Castro: How did I get started? (the cats are great) Well, I went to Barcelona to learn about bilingualism, got a job in a computer company, learned lots about translating and about computer manuals and then started my own company in Spain translating English computer books into Spanish. Then, the publisher I worked with, Peachpit Press, asked me to come back to the US to work on The Macintosh Bible. And I was really ready to come home, so I did. Then I started writing my own books, the HTML book being the first, followed by six versions of the Netscape book And then the Perl and CGI--which has been great fun.

JSM-19: I have Yahoo with HTML but I cannot chat. Do I really have to download anything?

Liz Castro: Hmm. Seems like a question about Yahoo. I'm not really sure how their chat works. HTML is for creating your own web pages. Chat is for talking directly live, like we're doing now.

Virtig01: Do you have any new web books coming out?

Liz Castro: Yes, I am working on a couple of things right now, but I don't want to give too many details.

Treefrogirl: How do I change the appearance of my mail? Background color and adding images (to be more specific)

Liz Castro: Well, lots of email programs let you add background color and images to your e-mail with HTML. You'd need the same tags that you'd need for doing color and images on a Web page, which are BGCOLOR in the BODY tag and IMG, respectively.

Treefrogirl: I don't know any HTML.
