Social Media Comments Impact AI Results. Turn Them On!
Over the years, Pharma has been in a game of tug of war regarding turning on social media comments. On one side you’ll find those who believe that there is value in “comments on”. On the other side are those who struggle with risk versus reward, or with proving ROI. With AI search rising in importance, I’d like to present a new reason why you need to turn ‘em on. The LLMs are training on them.
If you’re not participating on your owned properties, you’re missing an opportunity to influence results, citations, etc.
In turn, this amplifies the importance of content moderation and community management. Simply put, there is a direct relationship between your pages and how you are represented in AI results. AI systems read, learn from, and often repeat the comments you can manage. Every unanswered question, every unmoderated claim, every thread: that’s all raw material. If you’re not shaping it, someone (or something) else is.
Patients aren’t starting at your website anymore
They’re starting wherever they land, and, if you’re lucky, your brand website might be the fourth or fifth stop. That means the conversation happening around your brand is doing much of the work of defining you. AI systems don’t know your brand the way a person does. They infer it from patterns and from whatever text is out there and has been repeated enough times to look like a signal. When your owned channels go quiet, you’re not reducing risk. You’re just handing the microphone to whoever is loudest somewhere else.
Moderation’s role moves from a compliance checkbox to infrastructure.
The role of content moderation is frequently underappreciated. When it’s done correctly, it builds an environment that people can trust. But trust is a human characteristic. With the rise of AI results, machines and rules decide what to cite and what to associate with your brand, often with little to no verification.
Moderation without engagement gets you a channel that’s safe but silent, and engagement without moderation is not possible, unless you’re open to regulatory issues. Moderation paired with active, compliant community management ensures you have at least one channel that represents you in the best possible light, and a place that AI can learn from.
Partner roles must change. Break the silos!
It’s no longer advisable to have separate partners for moderation, content creation, media, and SEO. That model doesn’t hold up anymore. AI doesn’t respect silos, and neither should you. And since everything is interconnected, you need a partner that sees the whole and can manage the entire process.
Proactively manage the experience
AI will synthesize a version of your brand’s story whether you participate or not. The only real choice you have is whether that version is built from your voice, your accuracy, your community, or from whoever showed up loudest while you weren’t in the room.
The brands that shape the conversation today are the ones AI will be recommending tomorrow. That’s not a threat. It’s just where things are, and it’s worth acting like it.
LiveWorld helps healthcare and pharma brands do exactly this by bringing compliant content moderation, community engagement, response management, and AI search visibility optimization together in one integrated approach. That means brands can safely activate owned channels, shape the conversation more effectively, and build a stronger foundation for visibility across both social and AI-powered search.
